Dear parents The PTA committee are asking for your help. We are sure that you'll agree. That Gwaelod y Garth is an excellent school that we all value, and have tried hard to get our children into. The PTA exists to raise extra money to enhance the school learning experience for all the children. In our current economic climate these funds are becoming more and more essential. The PTA however has a problem. The committee is a very small group of people and although parents are very generous with donations and volunteering for events, there is an increasing amount of paperwork and legality the committee must meet to run as a PTA. We are struggling to achieve this and need help. Currently we need to address our charitable status. We are lucky that we are a successful PTA, but this creates work. Our choice is; - apply for charitable status , in which case we need help with the work and responsibility this entails - stop fundraising this year and severely limit income in future years. To resolve this we have arranged a meeting for 9am Thursday 26 march at school. We've chosen a daytime meeting as evenings appear difficult for many, and we would value everyone's support. Cakes and Shopping | Cacennau a Siopa

November. It's getting colder, and the nights are drawing in. Could there be a better time to think about cakes and Christmas shopping? 

This Friday it's the turn of classes 5C, 2C, 2E and Meithrin (morning) to stock our Cake stall. We have raised the price of a cake to 25p due to the rising costs of the items we buy for the school with the profits. We hope you'll agree that they're still a bargain!

And so to shopping...On Wednesday, November 26 we will be holding a Christmas Shopping evening in Taffs Well Village Hall, between 6.30 and 8.30pm. This will be an opportunity to buy from local crafts people and businesses, as well as national names such as Chocoholics and the Book People. We'll have a Christmas Cafe, with a mince pie and drink included in your ticket price. Tickets £2 in advance, £2.50 on the door (to buy from PTA members, or phone Beth Spear on 07971425668

Ry'n ni wedi codi 20c ers blynyddoedd ond yn teimlo bod angen inni gynyddu'r pris eleni (gan fod prisiau'r pethe ry'n ni'n eu prynu i'r ysgol wedi codi). Gobeithio'ch bod chi'n cytuno bo nhw'n fargen o hyd!

Yn olaf, plis dewch yn llu i gefnogi ein Noson Siopa Nadoligaidd ar Dachwedd  26. Cynhelir y noson yn Neuadd y Pentref, Ffynnon Taf, o 6.30 tan 8.30pm. Bydd yna stondinau lu gan grefftwyr a busnesau lleol a chenedlaethol. Cyfle i brynu ambell i anrheg Nadolig, mwynhau mins pei a diod a sgwrsio gyda rhieni eraill o'r ysgol. Many thanks to the parents and teachers who attended the PTA AGM on Tuesday evening. Unfortunately we are short of two key PTA Committee positions. At present we have no Chair or Secretary. Without people in these roles, we cannot function as a PTA, and will not be able to organise fundraising events such as the Christmas and Summer Fayres, Cake Stalls, Quiz night etc. The money from these events over the past two years has funded the school’s iPad sets, the new traversing wall soon to be erected in the yard, and many smaller things such as the children’s Christmas disco, and the circus skills workshop.

Several members of last year’s committee have been re-elected, but we need at least two new parents /guardians to join this year in order to run the PTA. The roles could be shared (eg two joint chairs, which has been the pattern for the last few years). So we’re asking for anyone interested to please contact us ASAP on our email (below), or have a chat with Beth Spear (mam to Lily – 1C) or Sally (mam to Carys – 2C and Rhian 4C) on the yard. We are very fortunate in Gwaelod-y-Garth that so many parents, grandparents and guardians help out at all our events, which makes the committee’s work much easier. We do however need to fill these important rolesbefore the next PTA meeting on October 7 in order to prevent the PTA from collapsing.

Thank you to everyone who helped and came to the Summer Fayre on Saturday.  We were so lucky with the weather, hope you all enjoyed yourselves.  Provisional total money raised is about £2000!
